Day Sailer Spring Series
Great Camaraderie, Lousy Weather
The good news was that we had 11 Day Sailers registered for the Spring Series and everyone was very excited for our season opener…everyone that is but Mother Nature, who threw us a no hitter both Saturday and Sunday. Eric Johnson our PRO and Chris Young our DRO tried everything to make racing possible but there is not much that can be done with rain and no wind. Yuck!
What we didn’t have in sailing this weekend we made up with quality knowledge sharing. True to our fleet ethos, the DSers are eager to share tips and tricks on everything from rigging, boat handling and maintenance ideas with each other.
So you might ask, who wins a regatta that never sails a race? After careful consideration and consultation with Day Sailer Association President, Robin Richards, of course awards had to be given. Our newest team of Alex Shewfelt and Aaron Hull took home the third place in the spring series for “outstanding enthusiasm.” Amy Harris and son David Harris were second for being the first boat to actually launch and try to go sailing. But our Spring Series Champions were Erika Seamon and husband Bruce Artman for giving their 1964 Day Sailer the first actual bath Seamonster has ever had with soap and water.
Next up for the Day Sailers is the Chesapeake Open June 15th and 16th.
