QR Code, say what?
You have seen them in all sorts of places for all sorts of reasons. What are they? What are they used for? Does SSA use them? What for?
What are they? QR Codes are those funny square pixilated icons you see on most everything these days. Food, theater tickets, in magazines on ads, posters for events, coupons – if you look you will find them everywhere.
What are they used for? QR codes, give directions to places, details of an upcoming event, directions for use of items, coupons to be used at check out. Install a QR reader on your smart phone and hold it up to one of these codes and you will be enlightened about this product or event. You get the drift.
Does SSA use them? Yes, we are starting to use them at YOUR Club! You have probably seen the code on the entry doors trying to get us to vote for Griffin Richardson’s picture for the cover of Spinsheet (shameless plug, we know, and yes, you should vote) Magazine.
What for? To start we are using them on the four Race Committee boats! There are so many things to remember about the care and feeding of these Club assets that we are putting it all in one QR code for your reference. Scan the code and you will see a table of contents and from there you can navigate to the information you need at that moment.
Want to know how the new GPS’s work? Scan the code! The electronic engine cut off wrist band not seeming to work? Scan the code! Want to know who Edgar D was? Scan the code! Want to know where the battery switch is and what battery to use? Scan the code! Equipment list? Scan the code!
NOTE! These codes are specific to each boat and are a work in progress. They have been set up so that you can comment on each section, report a part of the boat not functioning well, report that it is time for the fuel tank to be filled, lots of things. The more you use them and comment or add to them the better they will be for everyone. Please be part of the process!
Still confused? Here is a link with a long but easy explanation of the QR code system, how it is applied, etc. QR Code Generator
Many thanks to Leo Boucher for pushing us to make our lives easier and to Steve Podlich who has taken the reins and is still running with this project.
