Junior Fall sailing is off to a great start…

Sunday, September 26th, SSA hosted multiple sailing events, showing everyone how to get all sorts of different people involved and on the water.  We had the Lightning Frigid Digid, the MDISA Fall High School Gold Fleet Regatta, and an Opti Sunday Race Series.  The high school event included 14 teams from Maryland schools, and the Opti Sunday series had 23 boats on the water for their races!  The synchronicity in these events was on par with the best in the sport.  Each group launched perfectly staggered with each other and there were no issues with anyone bumping into each other or trying to feed out of the basin all at once.  It really was an amazing experience to be part of a Sunday like that at SSA.  There was so much activity but also such great communication between all of the events going on during the day. 

MDISA Fall High School Gold Fleet Regatta: We were lucky to have Dobbs Davis as the PRO and Keith Carew as our Mark boat.  We were able to get off 8 races in A Division and 8 races in B Division for a total of 16 races!  Archbishop-Spalding and Broadneck, the 2 SSA based teams finished 2nd and 5th in the event!  Well done teams!  We really enjoyed an awesome day on the water with lots of sunshine and lots of wind.  

The Sunday Opti Series was also a hit!  Andrew Cole was running races for 23 Optimist sailors from 12pm-4pm and they were able to get off 5 long races.  We also wanted to recognize Fletcher Perkins for running a team race practice in the morning then running a post race debrief for all of the sailors that attended the event this weekend.  This event has been a huge success thanks to all the parents that have volunteered their time to keep these young determined sailors on the water!  We appreciate all of you.  Check out the pictures below to see for yourselves how awesome Sunday was.
