This past weekend Fleet 329, at Severn Sailing Association, Annapolis Maryland hosted the 49th Annual No Gas Regatta for an exciting two days of very competitive sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. There were 11 teams, which included 6 local boats, 5 out of town boats, and 5 boats with multiple family members!
The No Gas Regatta started in 1974 due to the oil crisis, and has continued to be an excellent and competitive event through the years, complementing 329’s District fall regatta, the “Not So” Frigid Digit which will take place 09/30/23-10/01/23 (for less Frigid and more fun).
Saturday started with very light breeze but our determined RC were able to tow us to the breeze where we were able to get 3 very challenging light-air conditions races in before the wind died. Sunday morning arrived with gusto and made up for the lack of wind on Saturday with breezy, shifty conditions that kept everyone on their toes and made the scores very competitive! Special thanks to local company Annapolis Candles for our great custom awards!
At the end, with only 6 points separating first through fourth place, the final results after the last race were:
1st Place: Craig Cobbum/Jon Guth/Miles Guth, Severn Sailing
2nd Place: Clint Neuman/June Neuman/Devon Rau, Riverton YC
3rd Place: Trevor Prior/Sharon Jay/Gary Hoffer, Susquehanna YC
Please put the 2024 "No Gas" on your list of regattas next year. Next year will mark the 50th Anniversary for this event! Fleet 329 will find you a place to stay, provide great food, a spectacular venue and first class Race Committee. In addition to competitive racing, there will be great swag to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of this event.
