Day Sailer Atlantic Coast Championship
The Day Sailer Atlantic Coast Championship has been competed since 1976. Severn Sailing Association and Day Sailer Fleet One have hosted the regatta 16 times. This weekend the Day Sailer’s had a strong fleet of 12 boats registered, 2 first time teams with Pam Corwin/Christine Potts, Anna/Ike Brammer and a Richmond team with Bob Damon.
The Day Sailers shared the Club and the race course with the Lightning Fleet. It was great to see the club hopping with 18 Lightnings, 12 Day Sailers and an ILCA clinic.
None of that would have been possible without our PRO Charlie Krafft. A nice breeze early Saturday completely evaporated and left both fleets AP over H, and grappling with an exciting 30 boat tow back from area A.
Sunday found a big breeze, and steady rain. Charlie did a great job of running races close to the Club and in between thunderstorms. Too bad Ted Morgan was participating in the ILCA clinic because it would have been great to see his pictures of all the shoots flying in a big breeze. For the Day Sailer’s planning/surfing with spinnakers up definitely gets the attention of both the skipper and crew! The good news for DSers, despite challenging conditions, the fleet was able to keep all of our mast pointed in the right direction!
True to the Day Sailer tradition the party and food dominated the weekend with Matt and Lea Ann White hosting Fleet One party at their Eastport home.
The other mention was how well the parking was managed this weekend. 30 boats and a 10 person ILCA clinic is a lot for our infrastructure, just goes to show that with a little planning we can definitely pull off big weekends.
