Book Review: “A Lab of One’s Own” by Rita Colwell
BOOK REVIEW: “A Lab of One’s Own” by Rita Colwell
This is a true, inspirational, autobiographical story about the struggle of a woman to gain recognition and stature in the world of science. This book is a great gift for any young woman who is considering a career in science or technology. The author is a distinguished scientist. She was the Director of the National Science Foundation and a pioneer in many fields, including major studies on cholera.
You can read detailed reviews in the Wall Street Journal and other sources. Dr. Rita Colwell is the real deal.
Dr. Colwell and her late husband, Dr. Jack Colwell, were designated as Honorary Life members at Severn Sailing Association (SSA). The couple competed very successfully in their Day Sailer “Hero” at both the local and national level. Jack was Commodore of SSA. (There was one period of time when almost everyone in Day Sailer Fleet One at SSA had a PhD!)
So, for those parents, grandparents, friends, or others who know young women considering a career in science or technology, this is a great gift!
