Lasers Sail On!

From SSA Laser Fleet Captain Scott Williamson:

I hope this note finds you well and ready to get back on the water. Since the Chesapeake Bay has further opened up for more recreational boating, every yacht club has been working out how to host safe regattas in our Covid-19 world.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of racing with 35 other sailors at Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. On shore, the club structured an environment for everyone to practice social distancing. Regatta management looked a little different because they posted all announcements online, making use of Zoom and WhatsApp to communicate updates. The large open space of the club's parking lot and yard really allowed everyone to spread out. On the water, the regatta felt like any other Laser event - competitive and fun! Looking ahead these regattas are coming up.

6/20 - Philadelphia Laser Championship @ Marsh Creek Sailing Club

6/27 - Broad Bay Sailing Association Regatta @ Norfolk Yacht and Country Club

6/28 - Wolcott Memorial Regatta @ Norfolk Yacht and Country Club

Note: scores from both NYCC regattas will combine to make the Lower Chesapeake Bay Open Championships. Masters will be scored separately.

Other July and August regattas remain scheduled at this time, but please see the District 11 website for more details and regular updates.

In the meantime, for the Annapolis sailors, Severn Sailing Association has started TESODs again. It is FREE and OPEN to all sailors, but launching from SSA is for MEMBERS ONLY.  Registration is required. Go to the SSA Events Page for links to the NOR and SI.

Hope to see you racing!
