Day Sailer Spring Series
Thanks to the hospitality the Annanpolis Snipe Fleet and a savvy Severn Sailing Association RC led by Mark Bennett and Barbara Vosbury the Day Sailer Fleet One completed their Spring Series. The Day Sailer Association has always been a family boat that enjoys competitive racing with a corinthian spirit. Never was that more on display than this weekend. Conditions were sporty on Sunday and during the second race, even with three in the boat, Jeff Seltzer, his 10 year old son and 11 year old friend were very under weight. As a result of Spinnaker jibe Snafu, the Nina death rolled and capsized with the shoot up. It’s never good to capsize a Day Sailer, and that is particularly true when your crew is not heavy enough to keep the boat level so that the Skipper can drop the sails. Fortunately, and this is when the Day Sailer spirit comes in, Christopher Lewton who was sailing with Julian Jackson and in third place at the time, abandoned his race to offer assistance. Chris jumped in the water to help Jeff drop the sails, right the Nina and bail her out. Our series ended with 2 races completed, Chris rejoined Julian and were awarded a finish in place 3rd for their efforts. Jeff and the boys sailed back to SSA with the rest of the fleet to lick wounds and swap war stories. Does it really get any better than that?
