Waszp Spring Series

The SSA Waszp fleet had their first Spring series regatta and clinic this past weekend (4/14-4/16). Friday afternoon had stellar conditions for Clinic participants with sailors ranging from experienced Waszp sailors to first timers. Rick Wood was kind enough to bring 3 of his boats for the clinic and Tom Sittzman had 3 of his boats out on the water as well for people to sail. The clinic was coached by Austin Powers, Tom Sittzman and Nicholas Draper with participation at 9 boats for the clinic. A ripping southerly allowed everyone to get up and foiling to work on the various aspects of Waszp sailing and first timers were able to get up for their first airtime. Unfortunately, by the weekend the wind was not cooperating as light air on Saturday did not allow for racing. A better forecast on Sunday saw a small chance for a seabreeze which got a launch from the fleet. The fleet completed two "lowriding" races in the 5 knot southerly. Luke Woodworth won the regatta in a tie breaker with Austin Powers both on 3 points with a 1st and 2nd respectively. Robby Meek rounded out the event in 3rd place with 6 points. Next up for the Waszp fleet will be the ACC's hosted by Toms River Yacht Club in May with the next local Waszp regatta at SSA in June.
