Thistle Summer Invitational, July 23 & 24
Hot. July in Annapolis in the middle of a heat wave with heat indices over 100 F was a deterrent for some. Fortunately, PRO Luke Shingledecker kept the fleet ashore Saturday until there was some prospect for breeze. Three boats raced on Saturday with Rosemary Foltis with crew Doug Freeman winning the two races that were sailed. Sunday’s forecast was more promising with a thermal expected. Again, the fleet was kept ashore until 11:00 when the southerly breeze started to appear. Saturday’s fleet was joined by Bill Lawson, sailing with Bruce Empey and Amy Krafft and Charlie Krafft, sailing with Cairn Krafft and Marybeth Albritton. who had been racing Penguins on the Corsica river at the 80th Annual Corsica River Yacht Club regatta. Bill Lawson kept his weekend winning streak intact finishing with 16 points for the weekend, 1 ahead of Rosemary Foltis, who broke a tie with Charlie Krafft with 17 points, and Bill Krafft, who sailed with Jono Roberts and Molly Ratz, and Ed John, sailing with LeAnn Myhre and Howard (from Herrington Harbor) tied with 18 points. Rather a tight spread of 2 points separating the fleet.
