Day Sailer Chesapeake Open

Winner Matt White and Morgan Wittrock work down wind.

It was a great weekend for the Day Sailer Chesapeake Open; perfect weather, exciting racing and we and great comradery. This year not only did Day Sailer Fleet One host the Chesapeake Open but we got to welcome Washington’s own Rainbow Spinnaker Club to the inaugural Pride on the Bay 2022 Reggatta. Working with Regatta Chair Kim Couranz the Pride Sailor’s raced SSA FJ’s while the Day Sailers did their thing for the Chesapeake Open. After four races on Saturday both fleets we returned to the Club where we recounted the day with a Happy Hour hosted by Broadneck Grill.

For the Chesapeake Open the sailing was terrific both days and four shorter races on Saturday left two longer races on Sunday. Thanks to Henry Thomas and his crew for completing all of the racing in Area D. With a Southerly and tucking up into Carr Creek we were able to run an L2 course with .75 windward leg. We got a total of 8 Day Sailers out for the Regatta; Matt White and Morgan Wittrock won, followed by Robin Richards and Terry in second and Chris Lewton and LeAnn Maher in third.

Results Here. We got some terrific pictures thanks to Ted Morgan!
