And the winner of the 2020 Alden Bugly award for spirit, creativity and volunteerism is…

COVID certainly forced SSA, its fleets, and the sailing community as a whole to get creative and think outside the box. No one epitomized creative thinking more than SSA member extraordinaire Alden Bugly (aka John Potter) who passed away in 2017 after a long bought with cancer. Do yourself a favor and read about this colorful character who founded TESOD and boosted Frostbiting, among other things. Bugly defined the SSA spirit of volunteerism, love of one-design sailing, and the sailing club vs. "yacht" club environment. SSA now has an annual award in his honor. https://www.capitalgazette.com/.../ph-ac-cs-john-potter...

And the winner of the 2020 Alden Bugly award for spirit, creativity and volunteerism is Scott Williamson, Laser Fleet Captain! Scott definitely channels the Bugly spirit and the result is evident in the huge increase in SSA Membership for the Laser Class. Whether it is bonfires at Frostbiting, helping out any and all sailors get into the Laser, or just stepping up for any task the club needs done, Scott is the man. Congrats, Scott, and thank you for your service to SSA!
