2021 Club Awards
Special Recognition
This year we have two Special Recognition Awards for members who have really gone above and beyond in their service to the club, their fleets, or sailing in general.
The first is to Jill Bennett, who has consistently demonstrated her passion for junior sailing, both at SSA and at her “other” club on Deep Creek Lake. She served on the Junior Program committee before moving up to the Chair position this year. She has inspired and mentored much of our coaching staff, and has been a tireless advocate for the program. Thank you, Jill, for all you have done for SSA and Junior sailing.
The second award is for Scott Williamson. Scott has been a tremendously effective fleet captain for the Laser/ILCA7 fleet, who always has a boat to loan or sell to a prospective fleet member, and helps many of the fleet members with transportation to away regattas. In the past couple of years he has also contributed to the ILCA class on a wider level, first as District Secretary, and now as the Executive Secretary for the North American region. As a fellow Laser sailor, thanks for all you have done for our fleet and the class.
Laudeman Award
The Laudeman Award is one of SSA’s highest honors and is given annually to a member who has made significant contributions to the club over several years. This year’s recipient is one of those people with an incredible love for sailing and for the club. She is active racer in at least two of our fleets, and when she is not racing, I often see her out sailing on her cruising boat. As part of the Membership Committee, she has been instrumental in setting up very successful new member orientation programs, which have helped many of the new members who have joined in the past year get familiar with what we have to offer as a club. As an acknowledgement of all she has done for SSA, this year’s Laudeman Award goes to LeAnn Myhre.
