Waszp Clinic
16 sailors came to SSA this past weekend for a two day instructional clinic from the "WECANFOIL" program. Coach Agustin Ferrario and Sue Fraser of "WECANFOIL" were joined by Nicholas Draper and Austin Powers of the SSA fleet to help coach two separate groups over the weekend. One group was an "introduction" to Waszp sailing with ten sailors taking their first step in learning to foil the Waszp in a straight line. The "WECANFOIL" program brought 6 Waszps to charter for the first time Waszpers to switch in and out on. The other six sailors were looking to perfect their foiling maneuvers with Tacking and Gybing practice. The first day was on the lighter side, but it allowed all of the sailors to go over the mechanics of the boat on land along with an afternoon "lowriding" session to get a balance for sailing the boat in the water. The second day brought a perfect 10-15 knots in the morning that allowed the two groups to work on their separate missions. Every sailor was able to get their boat in the air on the final morning making for a wildly successful "first timer" Waszp clinic. The Waszp SSA fleet hopes to continue to grow their numbers next year by converting these sailors not just into boat owners, but into Waszp racers as well.
