Lightning Frigid Digit

The 72nd Frigid Digit was yet another success, with 16 boats on the line, with excellent work by the RC who set very fair courses in the shifty and gusty North Easterly breeze to get in five very competitive races.  There was high competition, with Allan Terhune tuning up to represent the U.S. at the PanAm Games in Chile, as well as Stevie Davis and Augie Diaz doing the same to represent the U.S. in Worlds in Cartagena.

This year's Frigid Digit hosted a wide number of sailors from both within the District, with 7 SSA club boats, including Blll Cabrall (placed 6th) who took a break from his Great Loop adventure to sail, and included Fleet 329’s newest members sailing their first Digit  - Bryan Burke (placed 5th)  and John Bennett. Dixie District skippers included Trevor Pryor from Susquehanna (placed 4th), Aaron Bonnecker from Fleet 50 (DC) placed 7th, as well as Starling Mikell (placed 10th) and Joe Buczkowski who was able to squeeze in one day into his calendar.  We also hosted travelers Robert Shields from Ocean City NY and Ched Rogan in his pristine 1971 Lippencott from Lewes, DE.  Saturday afternoon provided excellent camaraderie over light appetizers as well as an excellent dinner provided by our on-site food and drink vendor, Botanas Fajardo.

We worked with local potters Quirk n Bach to handcraft our unique coffee mug awards (keeping it local!), and kept the regatta green by participating in the Sailors For the Sea program, showing everyone how easy it was to host a green regatta.

Bertie Werley of Pymatuning Yacht Club was also in town and made it to the water to capture some excellent action photos for us, her full portfolio is available here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/FcxKBRqe5K6PTc5R6
