TESOD Weekly Racing Reports - August 19, 2008
38 boats turned out for a surprise of a delightful TESOD evening on the 19th. We started out running the standard windward-leeward with start/finish in the middle at 175 degrees, 3-5 knots. During the second race, the wind dropped to suboptimal (read: glassy) and started an aggressive shift left.
The Race Committee (Ted Morgan and Kim Couranz on the main boat, big thanks to Doug Palmer and Trey Wildey on the RIB) started improvising. On the fly we started using a six-mile-an-hour buoy, green can off David Taylor, and yellow NOAA observational buoy off SSA as rounding marks to get in two more races in breeze that eventually built to 6-9 out of 40 degrees.
Back to the club for delightful dinner from Dark'n'Stormy's (main committee boat loved the salmon)--another fun TESOD. Thanks to the sailors who were patient and stuck it out for the second half in the new breeze.
See you next week - 6pm sharp! Remember, the days are getting shorter!!!
