TESOD Weekly Racing Reports - July 29, 2008

The predictable wind shift at the first gun was on time again.

The SE to SSW breeze ranged from a positive 8 knots to 4 knots over the course of the evening. It was definitely enough breeze to be glad you were out on the water and not on the tarmac. There were still some sailors taking advantage of the cooling factor of the Bay as splashes were heard. The Laser fleet doubled this week with the women sailors standing out in the lighter conditions. Four races were completed with tight leeward mark roundings. Their was some chivalry displayed by Ted Morgan toward wife, Kim Couranz but he admitted that he was being tactical since she would walk him back to the finish in speed. Either way, it was a treat after being at many Wednesday Evening screaming match mark roundings.

There has been a big separation of the fleets due to late starters, etc. so use your judgment to cut the leeward mark to make it back to the start with the fleet so we can get more races off. TESOD = many starts, lots of boats on line, multiple boat tactics, tight mark roundings, no scoring, good camaraderie and discussions back on the SSA deck after sailing. Then, take the practice & learning and apply to a regatta for the gold.

Sophie Podlich celebrated her birthday aquatic with the family while cheering on mom Laser sailor, Margaret. She even sailed their boat back to the SSA dock with bowman, brother Ben. Way to go! It was nice to have Steve in another powerboat out on the course to help with wind shifts/mark changes, so feel free to check in if you are out spectating. The RC is on VHF Channel 65.

Thanks to Matt, Lori & Narragansett Schubert on the Favored End. The aquatic hors d'ouevres were specially appreciated by the mark boat team. The classic boater's engine cover hors d'ouevre table and cabin top shading were a plus!

Next week J Bergquist and Elaine Lamb are the PROs.
