Optimist Travel Team

The Optimist Travel Team is the most advanced racing group at SSA. Sailors are expected to not only compete in all major local events, but to also compete in regional and national caliber events. The Travel Team is ideal for mature sailors who are ready to make the commitment of advanced Optimist sailing including heavy travel. Travel Team sailors should be familiar with regatta formats and very self-sufficient on and off the water. There will be a parent liaison, subject to the approval of the SSA Junior Program Director. Parents are expected to volunteer time to drive to events as well as chaperone children at travel events. Travel Team sailors will focus on mastering their boat handling skills as well as advanced racing rules and tactics. Acceptance onto the travel team is subject to approval by the Junior Program Director. Submit your application by calling (410) 263-0071 or emailing

SSA Racing

Most weekends--and many weeknights--around the year, there's some sort of one-design racing happening out of Severn Sailing Association. Check out the calendar to see what's going on these days!

SSA Junior Program

SSA runs a year-round program to develop skills and a lifelong love of sailing in our younger sailors. A summer program and fall and spring high school sailing programs are just the tip of the iceberg.
