BOAT STORAGE UPDATE: LOT CLEARING
The SAP 5O5 World Championships will take place at SSA and EYC from September 20-29, 2017. This event will require full lot clearing per our storage agreement.
The Organizing Authority for the event expects at least 100 boats coming from Europe, Australia, South Africa, Japan, and all corners of North America. This event is a premier international sailing event and will attract some of the best sailors in the world. That SSA and EYC are hosting the SAP 5O5 World Championships is a testament to our clubs’ reputations as world class venues with world class race management.
Over the last three years, the 5O5 fleet has prepared for the Worlds by hosting two East Coast Championships and the North American Championships. For each of these events, we have worked to avoid the need for lot clearings given the inconvenience they pose to all fleets.
The space and lot requirements of the World Championships will require a full lot clearing to make room for the event. Per the storage agreement you completed and this year, “for September 2017 all owners will need to contribute to clearing the lot for the 5O5 Worlds.” The Organizing Authority knows that a lot clearing represents a hardship on other SSA members and we take seriously our responsibility to be good neighbors and citizens of our shared community. As such, we would like to share with you the plan for the lot clearing and plan to work with all fleets to minimize the inconvenience it will bring.
Keelboats should be off the lot by September 10.
All other boats should be off the lot by September 17.
The 5O5 fleet will throw a “lot clearing party” providing beer, pizza, tunes, and help for all fleets on Sunday the 17th to help everyone move
We will make arrangements on a first come first serve basis for a lot where dinghies can store their boats. We are working to reserve the same space as was used during the Snipe NAs. Boat owners storing here would have to pay a nominal fee.
We will work to make arrangements to find off-site lot storage for keelboats on a first come first serve basis. If available, boat owners storing here would have to pay a nominal fee.
On Saturday September 30th, the lot will be busy with container loadings, deconstructing the temporary buildings and tents, and clean up.
All boats are allowed back on the lot starting on Sunday October 1.
Don't have a driveway, garage, or other place you can store your boat? 505 Worlds organizers may be able to help; see this link.
We have a great system set up for all of the volunteer opportunities that will be available during the worlds. With the beautiful Sailor's lounge that SAP plans to build, some of the best sailor's in the world coming, plus the access to regatta social events, its going to be a very cool opportunity. We have set up sign up on Sign Up Genius here.
The 505 Worlds are fast approaching. To date, 89 boats are registered. In order to keep the event affordable for participants, we would like to fill as many requests for free housing as we can. To fill all the requests, we would need another 10 hosts to step forward. If you have a guest bedroom available, a fold-out couch, or even space for an air mattress it will be gratefully appreciated. The dates of the event are Sept 20-29 and guests will likely arrive at least a day in advance to get adjusted to the time zone and unpack their boat.
To host a sailor or two, please contact Mary-Sophia: firstname.lastname@example.org, (202)213-5325.
Please remember that the only event going on at SSA from September 20-29 will be the 505 Worlds. Parking at SSA for these dates will be limited to event participants only.
Yoga will be canceled during the 505 Worlds. No class will be held September 20th or 27th.
