 About SSA Junior Sailing

Our overall goals are simple: Safety, fun, and success.

We provide a safe and fun learning environment for young sailors, and:

  • Teach young people safe boat handling, seamanship, and sportsmanship;
  • Help young people learn to sail;
  • Help young people learn techniques of one-design racing and to help them fully develop their one-design racing skills; and
  • Promote youth sailing competition.

SSA has been a leader in junior sailing nationally and internationally for more than 50 years. Thousands of sailors have had the opportunity to experience sailing through this program. Sailors from SSA’s Junior Program have gone on to compete in collegiate, national, world, America’s Cup, and Olympic competition.

SSA junior sailors have taken their experiences at SSA and gone on to make sailing a lifelong passion, whether it be ocean/coastal cruising, one-design racing, grand prix racing, or day sailing.

The SSA Junior Program Director and coaches are all highly qualified and are eager to share their love of sailing with SSA's young sailors.

SSA Racing

Most weekends--and many weeknights--around the year, there's some sort of one-design racing happening out of Severn Sailing Association. Check out the calendar to see what's going on these days!

SSA Junior Program

SSA runs a year-round program to develop skills and a lifelong love of sailing in our younger sailors. A summer program and fall and spring high school sailing programs are just the tip of the iceberg.
